I have decided to take the plunge, and attempt to delete my Facebook account for good. To figure out how, I had to go into the Help section and search for "permanently delete account". Then it leads you to a link of how to do this. Perhaps there is an easier way, but this is the only way I could find.
I will try to keep my blogging to a minimum since that would defeat one of the reasons for getting off of Facebook, the waste of time it is.
The truth is, every time I log onto facebook, a little thought pops into my head. "Isn't there something more constructive you could be doing with your time?". Yes, I could. There is a multitude of reasons that facebook is really counter-productive for me. I am not that great at explaining these things, but this blog I found did a great job: http://www.ligonier.org/blog/should-christians-be-facebook/
Not all of his reasons apply to me, but many do. I must ask myself whether Facebook is standing in the way of many more important things. If I could keep my Facebook browsing time to the maximum time I set for myself, then perhaps it would be OK. However, I think we all know how five "Facebook minutes" turn into 30 real-time minutes. 30 minutes of precious time lost. God reminds us time and time again how our life here is a mere breath. Do I really want to spend it on facebook?
When I went to Emma's school Monday they had a project the kids had done. They had drawn a picture of their mom, and included details such as things she likes, what she likes to eat, and their favorite thing about their mom. The parents had to guess which drawing and description belonged to which child. Two of the drawings included under favorite things "going on the computer". I feared that one of those was mine! How embarrassing I thought, how telling! To my relief, mine said "Playing games". But the truth is, the computer-loving mom easily could have been me. If I was ashamed about that, then I need to do something about it.
I have been thinking about doing the same thing. The link to the other blog got to me too. I shall be joining you in the exodus from Facebook!
